shut it down

There's something to be said for sticking around until last call on a Thursday night. Mostly, "God damn, why did I stick around until last call on a work night?"

But no, there we were at St. Mike's at 2 am, blinking as Ben brought up the house lights and trying to finish a last pitcher of Pabst before heading home. And here I am at work today, a wee bit sluggish and wishing for about 7 more hours of sleep. Every now and then, though, you just have to go do it up right, get a belly full of beer even if you know it's a bad idea, stay up too late talking about porn and music with someone you like. Last night was one of those nights.

Tonight? Sleep.

At least the place closed down fairly early. Most of the bars I go to don't close until 4AM, and that's a rude wake up call the next day.

About 3 years ago I got made a the barstaff of a joint I used to hang out at, so I set off for home...a short walk away. I wound up running into a friend who convinced me to go to another bar that I usually don't hang out. Long story short (too late, I know), I stumbled out at 6:30AM into very bright sunlight and had just an awful day. I was working from home that day, but not a lot got done.

Never again.

Until the next time.

That was what it was like living in Atlanta. There's nothing worse than walking out of a nice, dark, cool bar into full morning sunlight.

I'm so glad that the thought of closing a bar would never even occur to me.
So glad.
