5/26/11

I am one of the 500 laid off today from DCF.

11 years of sitting in my office trying to help make sure that there is some kind of assistance for people facing mental health issues. 11 years of doing all I can do for shitty pay, whether it is compiling data to help get some budget money or just talking respectfully to folks who call out of desperation and pain, looking for a friendly voice.

I went in today. I got the call. I shook the man's hand and signed the papers. Me and 499 other people in already stripped-to-the-bone offices got "separated from the Department".

Technically, we have until June 30th, end of the fiscal year. I suspect I may burn some of that sick leave I never got to use.

The last thing I did before I left today, to go home by way of the beer store, was to make sure a grant application got sent so that the citizens of Florida can hold onto a few more services. Yeah, state workers, we're such villains.

You are a good man, brother. I'd burn the sick leave for sure.

Wish I could stop over and drink a beer or two with you this afternoon.

Maybe you can turn the trivia mastering into a profitable full-time business? You'd probably enjoy it more.

I love you so! Tell Baggy I said yo.

That sucks, man. I hate it when folks who are fighting the good fight get screwed.

Enjoy your sick leave in the coming month. You deserve it.

He is the "jobs" governor after-all. Dickhead.

You know, that bar is for sale...

That sucks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you so you get another good job soon. I hate to think how many people out there are relying on you doing your job well, and now you won't be there. Sounds like such a bastard they put in charge.

"separated from the Department"

Like you wandered off because you weren't holding hands with your "buddy". Sigh.

Sorry, DTG. Hope there's something spectacular brewing for you. Wouldn't that be some cool shit?

Call me when you're ready to discuss job ideas in the non-profit sector. Enjoy that sick leave first.

I love you and you're going to be fine and all will be well and I'm just sorry that our state is in this state and that the people who need the state most are going to be the ones to suffer.
You know what I mean.

Back in '97 I was 'displaced' from Alberta Health Services when the Gov't. cut the Health Care budget and closed a few Hospitals.

I know how you feel right now, but I got over it and moved on. I suspect you will too.

My word verification is insuckl. Appropriate?

SB: I might try to get a few paying trivia gigs, just to keep me afloat. Might as well give it a shot, huh?
(Baggy says hi.)

BE: Way of the world, huh? Thanks.

Magnum: one of my buddies and I sat around last night and blueskied bar ownership. I got the time, but I don't have the cash.

Mwa: Thanks. Yeah, there is nothing good you can say about the Gov.

HWB: Thanks, man.

ATT: Hey, thanks for the laugh. If only I was better at sticking with the group.

Juancho: I absolutely will. I have massive office skills and a strong ability to learn new ones, and you are not the first person to suggest I look into non-profits.

Mama: It's true.

PoM: Thanks!

Andrew: Funny how often health care is deemed unnecessary by those who can afford to not have to worry about it.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Have you seem the animated movie from a few year back called "The Incredibles"?

Maybe it is time to once again resurrect the definition of hero.

(But no capes, dahrling......

Keep fighting the good fight, Hank.

Thanks. Let's be honest, though, we're not heroes. I'm a secretary. I did my job, and hopefully helped my neighbors in the process. I did my job better at some times than at others, but I made sure it got done.

I just got my notice on Monday. My project in Tallahassee got killed (3rd project in 3 years) and my position went with it.

I'm based in Jacksonville, UNF to be exact. I'm the only one in my office getting kicked. I have until September 30.

Anyway, I remembered reading your blog post when you got word. Governor Voldemort just left a bunch of at-risk kids behind. Fugger.

Hate to hear you got punted. Yeah, Gov. Voldy is fucking anybody who's not paying him.
