Dear Mama and Dad:
Well, I just spent the weekend, with May, keeping an eye on Moon Manor. The house didn't burn down, the dogs didn't run off, and foxes did not raid the hen house. To battle this complete lack of excitement (and doing the Tallahassee Democrat's Sunday crossword puzzle does not count), I made Kool-Aid pickles.
1. Open already made dill pickles (in this case, that my mama canned).
Delicious looking, ain't they? If not, please blame the fact that I have to a camera phone.
2. Show how much a pickle can look like a thumb.
This is teh kind of thing that cracks me and my sister up. We sat around giggling for a good 5 minutes after I took this picture.
3. Buy kool-aid (actually, two packs, cherry in this case). Make it up, 2 pack of powder but only one pack's worth of water and sugar.
4. Pour off liquid in dill pickles, retaining all the dill seed and so on. Pour double strength kool aid over pickle in jar. Put in the fridge to chill.
I drank the rest of the kool-aid, but that shit was strong as hell. I iced mine heavily, which watered it down enough to enjoy.
5. After a while (a week or more is best) Eat! They come out sort of sweet and sour.
May and Jess hated them. May said, "I don't like this, and it's in my mouth." I felt so bad for her, but I really like the salty/sweet/dill effect. Anyway, I left the jar in the fridge, so tell me what you think.

DTG,
Glad everybody survived the weekend. The damn pickle looks like it came from Chernobyl or something.
Love,
SB
Kind of tasted nuclear, too. To be honest.
Will your Momma eat that? She doesn't strike me as the Kool-Aid kind.
Elmira doing OK?
She'll try it, and then (unless dad likes them) she will send the rest of the jar to my house. Which would complete my plan!
Oh, and Elmira was looking very healthy indeed when I mucked out their straw yesterday.
By the way, what is that other stuff on your plate?
Tuna melt. I must have had 5 of them this weekend.
I like tuna. I love thumbs. And I'll try anything once. Even a cherry pickle.
Kool-Aid thumb pickle. Not sure either.
Well I think it sounds like an absolutely marvelous time!!
It would sure be something to spend some time at Moon mansion with you folks, I think you all are funny, smart, and have incredible stories!
Please take pics of the chicks! Dunno about the rest of y'all, but I'm hung up on those girls (and guy!)
More, please DG, more!!
I had a tuna melt for dinner last night. Yum.
But those pickles sound awful! When it comes to pickles, I like 'em extra garlicky (sp?) and extra sour. No sweet with my savory, thank you very much. ;)
"I don't like this and it's in my mouth" that has me cracking up, may have to steal that line for something someday... not sure what yet...
I ain't skeered, but I know what I like. It's not the first time I wasn't real pleased with something I put in my mouth. I think it was the cherryness that threw me. I believe that cherry koolaid is best used for dying your hair, and I stand by that. OH YEAHHHH!
Oh NOOOO!
Sisters are the best laughing partners! Sounds like y'all had a great time, even if May didn't like the pickle in her mouth.
Maybe it's just me, but that last picture looks kinda dirty. Just sayin'.
Don't tell anyone, but I thought so, too.
We were all thinking it.
I wasn't thinking that pic is dirty until you said it. But I totally take, "I don't like this and it's in my mouth" as something that could totally be dirty, but that's just me.
Now I didn't HATE the Kool-Aid pickle, just ain't my favorite. Nuclear is a good way to describe it, or maybe "it's just wrong" is better.
For God SAKES children, do NOT DRINK the Koolaid whatever you do! Your mum would never forgive me for not intervening and having prior knowledge like this.
Quote of the day. " I don't like it, and it's in my mouth".
I love you so much!
Your mama
I've come back to this one a couple of times. I'm just not sure what to think. Something seems incredibly wrong about the idea of Kool-Aid Pickles. But I'm morbidly curious.
Did you invent these, by the way?
Nope, they're popular in Mississippi. I heard about them and had to give it a shot. Try some for yourself! Easy to make and a conversation starter.
